Why choose to work with me?

Many twins have sought help from therapists who did not understand the unique bond between twins or struggled to express their twin experiences. These therapists often overlooked the specific challenges of being a twin in a world that doesn't always recognize this connection. Therapy that doesn't address the needs and issues related to twin development is often unhelpful, making it hard for twins to commit to therapy. As both a twin and a therapist, I recognize the importance of twinship in addressing emotional and situational challenges.

“I may be a twin but I am one of a kind.”

— Jerry Smith

My story….

Adolescence is a tough and changing time for everyone, but for twins, the challenges are even more intense and unique. Twins are born together, so they often compare their development to each other. My sister and I were seen as one person, not as individuals. As a young adult, I felt a need to recreate that twin connection in other relationships, wishing for the deep understanding we shared where my needs were met without much communication.

I knew I needed to grow apart from my sister to understand who I truly was, but it wasn't easy. Separating from a twin can feel confusing, like two jigsaw puzzle pieces that depend on each other to be whole. I realized I couldn't achieve my life goals without finding a sense of completeness within myself. The more I saw myself as an individual with unique abilities, the more others recognized me as such. Being a twin has helped me understand the common struggle of discovering one's true self. This experience motivated me to support other twins facing similar challenges. It also inspired me to earn my doctoral degree in 2012.

I thought joining the military would be easy since I had always felt part of a team. I spent six years as a psychologist in the US Navy and five years in the intelligence community. Recently, I have worked on reducing stigma around mental health, which led me to neurofeedback and getting board certified. I am passionate about working with twins, using a therapy approach that addresses their unique interactions. This helps twins to strengthen their bond while promoting personal growth and recognizing their specific psychological needs.
